If you're a savory breakfast person, lemme see them hands. Put 'em up. Put 'em up.
This breakfast recipe just got T-Pain up in the 'ish real quick. That's what happens when you get salty ham, creamy cheese, and bread, glorious bread together at one time.
I am no stranger to the whole take a recipe, and make it savory game. My, oh my how my tastes have changed over the years. Coming from the girl who hoarded candy under her bed, and slept with her Halloween loot, this is a drastic overhaul. I am all about the salt nowadays.
And you can't say ham without saying salt now can you?
I always associate ham with the holidays, since I rarely ever eat is outside of Christmas and Easter. Making this made me feel like I should either be wrapping gifts or coloring eggs. Isn't it amazing how one food can evoke memories/mess up your time awareness like that? Cray cray.
While I am carving pumpkins and sleeping with the lights on in this pre-Halloween time, I know what a sneaky devil that holiday season is. One day it's Mike Myers, the next it's Kris Kringle. Time doesn't actually exist November 1 to December 22.
I find any and every excuse to eat breakfast foods at all times, so I find that this savory bread pudding is worthy of breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Maybe not all in one day, but I swear I wouldn't know from experience. Just sayin'.
It's also a great way to use up dinner (or dare I say holiday) leftovers, milk that's getting close to it's R.I.P date, or for a loaf of bread that's seen better days. Using a hearty bread like a 6 grain or seeded is my favorite, and makes this dish all the more satisfying and hearty for this dropping digits.
Money saving tips for this Savory Bread Pudding Recipe:
- Shop the day old rack. This recipe actually works better with stale bread. Get your hands on some discounted day old bread if your grocery store offers it.
- Buy your cheese pre-sliced. I know this is counterintuitive, but I found that the price was almost half per pound when I bought the pre-sliced Swiss in the dairy aisle as opposed to the deli counter.
