NOURISH. A Lorna Jane Cookbook Review.

July 8, 2014 by Emily Cooper 3 Comments

**Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Lorna Jane. I was compensated for my time.  As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Long time no see my good friends! The day is finally here, and I am off to Paris and the likes of France to eat, drink, and relive my childhood obsession with Mary Kate and Ashley. Passport to Paris anyone?!

But before I barrage you with pictures and updates of the City of Love, let me let you in on something and someone else I love. Ms. Lorna Jane!

    Picture 1

Thanks to Fit Approach and my amazing Sweat Pink Sisters, I had the chance to preview Lorna Jane's new cookbook NOURISH and give YOU guys the opportunity to win your own copy and $200 to spend on some Lorna Jane gear!

So first off, if you don't know Lorna, she is not only the creator and face of a popular self titled active wear line, but also one who lives, eats, and breathes active living. This is proven by her new campaign for the cookbook launch which is #liveloveNOURISH.

July Editors Letter: Let's Live Love Nourish | Move Nourish Believe

This encompasses what Lorna Jane lives and stands for and is what the NOURISH cookbook starts off with. Active living can be summed up in three workds. MOVE. NOURISH. BELIEVE.

    Move your body everyday.

Nourish your body with delicious food.

Believe that anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.

Agreed. The other great thing about NOURISH is the fact that it supports an anti-diet mentality. I've ranted about my despise for diets before, and love how Lorna focuses on how diets are not the way to a healthy body and life. It's more about putting good food into your body and giving it what it needs to fuel whatever you have in store for it.

Now probably my favorite part (other than the actual recipes) was the emphasis on eating local. While buying organic is the next best thing, Lorna really shows her belief and support for local foods that were grown closest to home with minimal processing. This is more of the approach to eating that I have been more focused on recently so I was right on board with this. I believe local foods not only have better nutrition, but are better for the environment and community we live in. Did I mention it also just tastes damn amazing?

Okay on with the food! So far I've tested 2 of the 120 recipes NOURISH has to offer, and of course both of them have to do with my favorite meal of the day, BREAKFAST.

First up was a spinach, salmon, and preserved lemon omelet. Now I love salmon. And spinach. And omelets. But together? I was skeptical of how this might turn out. Being one to try new and strange food combos I had no fear of giving it a whirl.

Let me just say the omelet did not live to see another day. I actually had it for lunch instead of breakfast, but in my world breakfast foods are suitable for any time of day. Plus this took probably less than 5 minutes to make, so if you get a case of the hangries often, this is a tested cure.

Here's what you would need to make this omelet of wonder:

    omelete ingredients

Simply add your eggs to a preheated skillet over medium heat, coated with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. Once they are almost set, add the remaining ingredients, and transfer to a plate folding in half along the way.

Now I do have to say that I cheated and used canned wild salmon instead of steaming a filet like the recipe called for, but if you are doing some meal prepping then by all means cook that salmon.

The flavors really melded together well and was super filling and satisfying. As soon as I took my last bite, I thought to myself, "Girl, you know what you're doing. Mad props, sista." Good thing I just thought this one out, since talking out loud to a digesting omelet is just plain creepy.

Next up was a Green Breakfast Smoothie. Now prepare yourself for some epic photoshop skills...and by epic I mean amateur. Either way I patted myself on the back for this one.

You like that?! Yeah so did I.

I'm usually not one for smoothies, but on a 92 degree humid day, a bowl of oats just ain't gunna cut it. Plus it has almond butter in it, so I was sold solely on that fact.

    Simply blend the following:

    -1 cup coconut milk

    -1 small banana, sliced

-½ mango, frozen (or organic frozen raspberries as I did)

    -1 tablespoon almond butter

    -2 teaspoon chia seeds

    -2 teaspoon raw honey

    -1 teaspoon maca powder

-1 cup organic baby spinach leaves

Then top with some more banana slices and chia seeds and devour.

How come you didn't use the preserved lemon skin rind. Regular lemon rind just as good? Not as salty? What are chia seeds? Let us know how the French peanut butter is. Au revoir and bon voyage.

Looks good! I'm in love with PB or AB toast with fresh fruit on top right now. So good!
