#FFMarchMiles & Mardi Gras

March 5, 2014 by Emily Cooper

Hiii! It’s Wednesday alrea-day. Can y’all feel that?

So last February I spent a long weekend with some great friends, great food, and LOTS of Beads! I’m talkin’ Mardi Gras baby!

While I didn’t get the chance to fly down South to the big easy this year, I did the next best thing and celebrated Fat Tuesday in N’awlins.

It’s a restaurant in Manchester that has everything you’d want in a Louisiana bar on the northern side of the mason dixon. Jazz bands, hurricanes, and even bra’s hung in the trees. It’s like I never left the South!

I met up with two of the best gal pals to enjoy some fruity drinks and Southern fare. I ended up getting the Cajun mussels with Hannah while Becky got the Clams and split some hush puppies with me. PS that bread was the best for sopping up all the mussel lovin’ good sauce under there. Besides being oober salty, these mussels were da bomb.

And I made sure to thank the band on the way out. I applaud anyone who can walk around a bar and play banjo at the same time. I can barely walk around a bar to begin with..

So this is Workout Wednesday after all, so let’s talk fitness people! This month I have joined in on FitFluential’s #FFMarchMiles challenge! I’m sure if you follow me on any social media you are already sick of my daily posts with the #FFMarchMiles hashtag.

The challenge is to run/walk/hike 100 miles in the month of March for a chance to win some awesome gear from Reebok and heck, just to say you did 100 miles in March!

The Winter has put a damper on my usual running routine so I took this as a way to commit back to the road for some running mileage. I started this weekend with 4 miles on Saturday and 2.75 miles on Sunday. I am counting every fraction of a mile because a.) I’m that picky about numbers and b.) ever step counts when you are reaching for 100 miles in 31 days.

FitFluential has a calendar you can download to track your miles, but I am more of a spreadsheet kinda gal so I made my own tracking. I set it up so I could see how many miles I did so far, how many I have to go, and what I did for the day.

While I would love to run each and every mile, realistically it is not gunna happen. First off, my shin has still been bugging the heck out of me. I have had shin splints before so I’m familiar with what those feel like, but this is not one of them. It is more on the side rather than the front and starts hurting anytime I put pressure down on the balls of my feet. I have to admit I have been stubborn and kept running despite knowing I should probably rest it out, but that’s just what us runner’s do, so I can’t help it. I’ve also been wearing a pedometer during the day at work to track how much I walk throughout the day.

While my job is mainly spent at my desk, I make an effort to walk first thing in the morning, and take the long way around to anything I have to go to. So far it looks like I am on a good track to reaching 100 by the end of the month, as long as my shin doesn’t decide to spontaneously burst out of my skin. Or maybe just sprain something. That’s a little less graphic right?

Make it a great day!
