Happy Fri-yay all my party peeps in the hizz-ouse!
…literally just felt like a soccer mom trying to be cool as I typed that, but I’m horrible at intros so we’re just gunna move on now.
I’m no stranger to the realm of food-related events, meet-ups, conferences, and any and every excuse to get free food in and around my face.
In exchange for this post and social media coverage, I was given a free pass to the expo. All opinions and insider deets are my own.
Now if you’re not a seasoned veteran to the Gluten Free Expo deal, you may not know just exactly what your in for, which is why I’m sharing my insider tips to pump YOU up.
Spoiler: It’s not gluten.
You’ll meet some pretty awesome people.
But only if you go to the Worcester show, because that’s where I’ll be. 😉
Us bloggers always know how to have a good time when it comes to food, especially when you put all of us in the same room… with smart phones. It’s always nice to meet “my people” aka those who understand how bad fluorescent lighting is for an insta pic, or why all the hashtags matter all the times.
And if you’re not a blogger, there are still SO SO many awesome and super friendly people literally handing you food at all times. And much like “my people” is to “bloggers”, “GFAF Expos” are to “food allergies”. It such a welcoming thought to know that there are hundreds of people in the same room that understand why you read every food label, or ask restaurant servers a million questions. Everyone at the expo gets it, and they are there to specifically point you to products you can try, no judgement or questions asked about your million questions.
And then come find us bloggers, because we’ll point you to the booze booths and take made selfies. I told you we’re awesome.
You’ll run into celebrities.
They made be made out of cardboard, but what celebrity isn’t fake nowadays 😉
Plus, they’ll always let you take your time with photo ops no questions asked. They do hate answering questions though, so you might want to skip that.
Did I mention I’ll be there too?
You will try at least 5 different types of gluten-free pizza.
….Or make that 10 if you give the entire expo another zip around. Not speaking from experience or anything. Purely hypothetical.
But definitely plan on stuffing your face with all kinds of goodies from pizza, sandwiches, ice cream, and even BOOZE while you’re there. Things that will make you say I didn’t know that was gluten-free?! but you don’t care because it tastes amazing.
And make sure you hit up the sushi table, because they love stuffing your face with gluten-free sushi and loading you up with coupons. Just shower me with food and coupons, and you have my heart.
And walk out with life-sized bags of chips.
…Or at least attempt to. I learned Way Better Snacks loves you posing with their giant bags of chips, but walking out with said bag is somehow highly frowned upon.
They do however make the best sriracha chips I’ve ever laid my guac on, and will gladly provide you with a non life-sized bag of your own.
You’ll walk away smarter.
..and fuller. The expo isn’t just a place to stuff your face with all the gluten and allergen-free foods (although not gunna lie, that’s super fun), but there are also speakers, cooking demos, and loads of opportunities to network with those who have similar allergies or food intolerances as you. While I may not have an aversion or allergy to gluten or any food allergies that I know of, I have definitely had my fair share of digestive issues that can be worsened by certain foods. And as an dietitian, I like being able to point those who do have allergies to foods and products I’ve tried myself and can whole heartedly get behind.
