WIAW: Trying New Things

Is it just me, or do Wednesdays seem to be getting here a lot faster nowadays?

Monday is still dial-up, primal AOL slow, but as soon as I hit refresh we’re talking BOOM! Hey-lo it’s Wednesday.

And it’s just any old Wednesday. It’s the SECOND Wednesday of September! Do you know what this means?!

Absolutely Nothing!

But in the SN world, it’s DOUBLE WHAMMY WEDNESDAY!

I’m combining my old Workout Wednesdays with What I Ate Wednesdays to make for a giant  leafy green- peanut butter smothered- can of whoop a$$!

What I Ate Wednesday: Fun Food & Fitness

In case you missed my awesome news, I’ve decided on running my very first half marathon finally in November! I’m in the midst of my 12 week training, which is the well-known Hal Higdon Novice that you can find here.

So here’s a run-down (get it?! Waka Waka) of my training/exercise routine so far this week and what I’m planning on:

Sunday: Long run 4 miles

Monday: Yoga & Walk 1 hour

Tuesday: Run 3 miles & Walk 45 minutes

Wednesday: Cross-train on bike

Thursday: Run 3 miles & Weight Training

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Weight Training

Sunday: Long Run 4 miles

I’ve  really been digging Yoga, especially on Monday after my long run. It’s a relaxing way to torture my body in ways I didn’t know were possible.

Papa John joined me on yesterday for my run since he is doing a 5k this weekend. I’m still debating whether or not I should join in, which means my long run would turn into a 5k…and a mile thrown in there somewhere after the free bananas and samples of coconut water. Gag.

Okay. okay enough about this fitness shhhhhow of emotions, let’s get to the FOOD!

I usually love starting the morning with a monster omelet, but I tried mixing it up with Katie’s instant porridge with coconut flour, and added in a scoop of chocolate whey protein and some chunky pb for some more staying power. It wasn’t bad but omelets are so much more satisfying.

Be warned though if you make it, have a big glass of water ready. It’s loaded with about half your day’s fiber which will most likely leave you feeling 10 months preggers with a bloat baby without chugging a glass of water soon after.

Lunch was the usual salad topped with a can of tuna, salsa, and caramel macchiato almonds. I’ve discovered that any flavored almonds eaten with salad instantly taste like sugary cereal.

First the blueberry ones tasted like Fruity Pebbles. And now these ones tasted like Cocoa Puffs. The answers to these phenomenons I do not know. Or ask. Just engulf.

And some form of vegetable must be smothered in chunky peanut butter at some point throughout the day. Yes that’s cabbage. No shame, I’m weird.

An afternoon snackular was a microwaved egg topped with salsa because I was too lazy to make a hard boiled one. Along with some more cocoa puff almonds and lots of green tea.

I’ve been feeling less than crap-tastic, fighting off a cold or something like that. Luckily, this Lipton Superfruit Green Tea rocks my stuffed up face off.

Dinner was one of my made up creations, a curried salmon patty and a boatload of broccoli. Boatload. Technical term. Ask Julia Childs.

Here’s how to make these awesomely easy salmon patties:

1 (15 oz) can wild salmon, bones removed

1 egg

1/4 onion, chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 tsp ginger

1 tsp curry powder

Heat skillet over medium heat, and spray with cooking spray. Combine all ingredients thoroughly in a medium bowl. Form into 3-4 patties, add to the skillet. Cook 2-3 minutes on each side or until browned.

Now you can buy the boneless and skinless variety, but I like a little extra healthy fats and calcium, so I buy the whole thang. I just remove the spine bones, because they look nasty and would rather not have a crunchy patty. Totally up to you though.

And to take me back to my Southern transplanted roots, I made some collard greens for this week. So you know how Paula got kicked off Food Network….

I bought me a multi with omega 3’s for a little boost. Okay, who am I kidding, it’s for the gummies. I still don’t feel right eating one at breakfast so I settled for one with lunch and dinner instead. Thanks Nature Made for making all the flavors look exactly alike so I can’t eat all the strawberry ones first and leave the gross orange ones for last.

And that’s my week in a Wednesday morning nutshell. Thanks to Ms. Jenn for another spectacular shin-dig!

 Make it a great day!

What was your favorite fruit snack flavor?

Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Puffs?
