Hiya Friday folks!
I hope you’re gearing up for a last summer hoorah this holiday weekend. I’ll be traveling back to my NH roots for a good chunk of the time, which I’m especially excited for since my brother John will be in town.
I haven’t seen this fathead (our endearing nickname for each other) since New Year’s, and generally only see him for during the holidays, so it’s always nice when we get to spend some quality family time together.
I started my Friday off bright (or not so bright) and early at 5:30 to knock out the 2 mile run I had set for my training.
from Sinful Nutrition Instagram
I aimed for a negative split, which is when the second half of your run is quicker than the first half. I always go out too strong and end up half passed dead on the way back. I ended up starting with a 9:25 pace and finished with around an 8:00 thanks to my FitBit. Garmin just wasn’t having it today.
I was starving even before the run, so a quick smoothie was much needed afterwards.
Just a scoop of vanilla whey, cup of almond milk, tablespoon of chia seeds, 1/2 banana, and a teaspoon or so of Nutrigreens. Topped with instant coffee and cinnamon. I like the bitter/sweet combo, and a little extra coffee is never a bad thing.
Next week is chock full of traveling, conferences, and a LOT o’ learning. After sitting through an annual training conference for work, I’ll be driving my butt (and the rest of me I guess) straight to VT for yet another 3 day excursion, otherwise known as Blog Brulee!
My attendance at the Blog Brûlée is partially funded by Sponsors of the Blog Brûlée, and I received a discounted registration to the event in exchange for writing this post. Opinions expressed are my own. I was not compensated for my time.
Since there are so many awesome speakers this year, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite posts by them. That way you can fall in love with every one of their recipes, posts, and shenanigans as I have.
Why I Let My Kids Have Junk Food – Sally, Real Mom Nutrition
I was a self-proclaimed candy hoarder, entire Ben & Jerry’s pint, Halloween candy until I’m sick kinda kid and I turned out to be a dietitian. Let kids be kids!
What’s Hiding in that Ingredient List? – Anne, fANNEtastic Food
So you know you should be reading food labels and only eating foods with 5 ingredients or less, but have you ever checked your medicine cabinet?
Why I Unpublished 200+ Posts (and Why I Think You Should, Too) – Katy, Katy Widrick
This post inspired me to delete A LOT of old posts that were pointless, forgettable, and just plain awful. If they didn’t fit the blog theme, or needed a vast picture upgrade, they get the ax.
Grilled Corn & Chickpea Salad – Katie, Healthy Seasonal Recipes
Now that I’m progressing away from the low FODMAP, I am anxious to get my fork into some chickpeas. Mostly in hummus, but definitely into a salad like Katie’s. Although I did LAWL at the “optional” goat or feta cheese. That’s a requirement in my bowl.
How To Food Prep: 5 Tips For Beginners – Lindsay, The Lean Green Bean
My meal prep game used to be so strong, but lately it’s fallen to the wayside. These are great tips for both newbies and seasoned pro’s needing a refresher!
DIY Subway Tile Backsplash Backdrop – Kylie, immaEATthat
I’m in desperate need of dedicated blog photo shoot props, dishes, and backdrops. First up is this backsplash that Kylie couldn’t have made an easier for me…to convince Papa John to make it for me.
Gift Ideas For Food Lovers – Lisa, EatingWell
Besides the fact that (aside from Food Network), it’s been a dream of mine to work for EatingWell and I may be convincing Lisa to hire me on the spot, my bday and Christmas are (OMG) right around the corner. I thought I might spark some ideas. You know, get the gift giving blood flowing. 😉
I can’t wait to meet all these inspiring women plus all the fellow attendees next weekend. So much foodie, bloggie, RD love happening!
Make it a great day!
Any plans for labor day weekend?
